Peter, Thanks for posting your question here. Modems and Sound Cards are usually the first culprits for being Plug and Play. Instead of explaining each possible senario and how to solve it, it would would be better if you could let us know what brand and model of sound card you have. Also find out if the cards are PnP, PCI or ISA, etc. Also it's important to know whether the Modem is internal or external. Once you provide this information I'll be able to give you a much better and more detailed answer.
