Can you imagine what it would look like if you could actually look like if you could see infrared or ultraviolet wavelengths with the naked eye? Neither can I. We can only simulate it with other colors that we can see.

But my question and point of this thought is, what would it look like? If you've never seen what a certain color looks like, is it possible to imagine it and see it within your mind's eye? Try it.

Before you dismiss this thought as rubish and conclude that it's impossible to see any other colors than most people see, you should know about the following; There are a small group of women on the planet who have a fourth type of color rod in their pupils from which they can process color and light. These women are refered to as tetrachromats. Unfortunately, this mutation only seems to happen in women and in rather small numbers. Women who have this four color receptor trait are able to see colors inbetween the colors we see and more colors overall. Could this be one of the next evolutionary changes that we face?
