Often when I hear someone talking about the grim future of the world and the possibilities of nuclear war. I hear them talk about their desire to NOT have children so that they would not have to bear the same fears and pain. But what I find interesting is that it is the existance of their own children that make the people in war decision making roles that back down and avoid such deadly conflicts.
This troubles me in these countries where religious extremists seem to believe that their children are sacrificing themselves for the greater good of their cause. So the people in decision making roles have fewer personal attachments to stop them from starting a nuclear crisis.
