If any of you who read this are responsible for all the portscanning that goes on the Internet, STOP IT NOW!!!! For those of you who don't know, portscanning is what someone can do with their computer on the Internet to search for running services on another computer or network on the Internet. The only real purpose to doing it to computers that you have no relation to is for malicious intent. People with nothing better to do look for running services that are vulnerable to the attack.
From a system administrator's point of view (like mine). This is really annoying. Most of the time the hackers only get firewalled out from doing complete scans and then with the firewall logs that keep, we notify the scanner's ISP of their immoral activities so that they can investigate. But now it's getting out of control. People everywhere seem to be taking up portscanning like it was a national pasttime. Half of the time the scans come from hosts that have been compromised from another location. So this could be prevented if people would stay on top of security updates and properly maintain their machine.
The Internet is just becoming a big piece of crap, mainly because most of the administrators of it haven't been taught correctly and do things half assed. Ok, rant over.
