When I saw the trailers for Final Fantasy I knew that this movie would be the biggest computer graphics breakthrough since Tron. I was right. Half way through the movie I was almost forgetting that I was watching brush and texture mapped 3D structures and skeletons. The attention to detail by the 3D animators and artists is outstanding. My only objection is that at some points through the film the lip-syncing was out of phase. It makes me wonder if they did the voices before or after the animation was done.
As for the story, hmmmm. I think that we need to acknowledge that there is an emerging conflict genre called "man vs. inevitability". Agent Smith knew about this one. It seems that so many anime and geek-flick movies lately have been based off apocolyptic ideas and themes. I'm starting to get a little sick of it.
Anyways, for the graphics I'll give a 10 out of 10 and for the movie overall I say 7 out of 10. The story was better than I expected.
Also, be sure to check out the Final Fantasy website to see just how much research and hard work they put into this movie. Be sure to look at the link on production.
Now I want to see a non sci-fi, dramatic CGI movie like that.
