You can never say that you would have made different decisions

From time to time, I've heard other people (even myself) say that they are not responsible for the decisions and choices of their ancestors. I'm talking about war decisions, slavery, investments and so on. Some people like to claim that if they had been alive back when such choices where made, that they would have made different ones.
Well, most likely that's not true. See, the people who made those choices did so because of the environment they were in, the way they thought and were raised. You and I would be no different in those same circumstances. Chances are that if we tried to be different, we would not end up in the position that the person was in. We would probably be rejected for trying to be so different.
So how is now any different. Probably right now choices and actions are being made that people will be ashamed of 400 years from now. So break out of the box and make those changes for them.
